Who should take the course?

The course will be beneficial to construction managers, site supervisors, designers, warranty representatives, estimators, sub trades, contractors and other members of your building team.


What will I get out of the course?

This course provides an opportunity for Alberta builders to learn how to:

  • Identify the basic properties of soils.
  • Recognize site conditions that require special attention.
  • Describe development requirements from the pre-development stage to post-construction.
  • Describe common causes of foundation and structural damage.
  • Identify and understand potential solutions to soil problems.
  • Describe common remediation techniques.
  • Interpret the building codes in relation to proper building techniques on soils.
  • Become familiar with legal issues surrounding residential building construction.
  • List what should be considered in the order of operations for residential development.


How long will it take me to complete the course?

It should take you approximately 15 hours to complete the course. We suggest that you complete one or two modules per week, over a period of eight weeks. Take a look at the list below to see how long it should take you to complete each module!

Module 2 - Soils 101: The Fundamentals [1.5 hours]
Module 3 - Common Tests [2.5 hour]
Module 4 - Causes of Foundation Damage [4.0 hours]
Module 5 - Remediation Techniques [2.0 hours]
Module 6 - Legal Issues [1.0 hour]
Module 7 - Order of Operations [2.0 hours]
Module 8 - Practicum [0.5 hour]
Module 9 - Final Test [1.0 hour]


What do I do if I forget my password?

  1. Go to www.conceptformula.com/lms/anhwp.
  2. Under the Access button, click on Forgot your username or password?
  3. Type your email address.
  4. Click Submit.

You should receive your login information within a few minutes.


Can I leave the course open in the background while I do other work?

Yes! However, after 20 minutes of inactivity, you will be logged out. For better results, exit the course if you have other work to do.


What should I do if my popups are being blocked?

Internet Explorer versions 6.0 and above have a built-in popup blocker. If a popup is being blocked, you will see a yellow bar at the top of your Internet Explorer window.

What do I do if I run out of time?

You have 90 days to complete the course and the practicum. However, if you require more time, contact the course administrator for an extension. Click here to view the contact information.


What happens if I fail the course?

You can take the final test as often as needed. If you fail the course, try the quiz again until you pass.


Once I have completed the course, do I get a certificate?

Yes! Once you have successfully completed the practicum and the final test, you will receive a certificate from The Alberta New Home Warranty Program.


How much does the course cost?

$495 + GST.
